Why Are You Doing This?

We know that in business, we all get fatigue, whether or not things are going badly….

…..it does happen.

Burnout is one of the causes of failure, of quitting.

And why not?

Life is too short.

As I pointed out last week with the loss of a friend, it got me to thinking about the power of Gratitude.

And how although it is tough building your own business, the people you meet along the way are simply amazing.

But sometimes you feel like you are on your own.

You feel at a loss, and internalize your burdens.

…… especially when no one in your family or circle of personal friends seems to ‘get it’.

And when you can’t make a profit to save your life, you figure why beat yourself up any longer?

Why are you doing this?

In fact, that is THE million dollar question.

If you haven’t heard it by now, you should know that if your ‘Why’ isn’t strong enough you won’t make it.

And THIS is WHY.

When you feel you have tried EVERYTHING, or that you’ve run out of resources, mentally and emotionally exhausted, and getting no support from your inner circle, unless you have a VERY strong reason to find a way to succeed…..

….. you simply wont.

It is a well formed and understood WHY that you have INTERNALIZED into your subconscious of your mind, that governs your actions without even thinking about it that keeps you going against all odds, challenges and perceived barriers……

…. that keeps you from eventually just giving up and giving in… quitting….

….failing.

This past week I’ve had to regroup, and refocus, after the loss of my friend.

Even when I decided to honor her and send an email about one of her favorite mantras, the power of Gratitude, not just one, but TWO people on my list marked that message as Spam or Junk.

I had not even included a link to so much as my blog!

But I merely pointed out that an attitude of Gratitude goes a long way toward your having a positive mindset and being able to foster your own success.

Did it hurt that someone marked this message as spam?

Yes.

Did it make me want to give up?

Not quite. My reasons for working 80 hours per  week between my full time job and my business have long since been internalized so I never think this is TOO hard.

Yes it’s difficult sometimes, YES it is frustrating but I AM making progress, and SO ARE YOU.

Even though you may not be making money yet, YOU HAVE LEARNED a thing or two, right?

So here it is…….

Ask yourself : Have you talked to anyone about your business this week?

If not, then why not? Do you have a method for capturing leads?

If not then what can you do to put that in place, or how much are you networking, online OR Offline?

Are you not getting at least one in ten people to say yes to you?

If not then perhaps there are some communication skills or your belief level that you can work on.

I can help you in either of these areas, and as you may realize, beyond that into building an online presence and funnel framework for yourself.

If these are your sticking points then it’s up to you to decide if your ‘Why’ is strong enough to carry you through the actions necessary to grow your business.

… to reach out to someone who can help, whether

that be myself or someone else…..

And if you have no vehicle for making money, please contact me as I am sure I have something that can create your financial vehicle.

As John Maxwell says in one of my favorite quotes:

“The pessimist complains about the wind.
The optimist expects it to change.
The leader adjusts the sails”

So lead yourself to your own success, it really is up to you.

And if you need my help, I’ll be happy to talk with you and determine where you can adjust your sails. Just say the word.

  1. This post of yours has been interesting all the way. I’m just a part timer and I couldn’t imagine myself working like you for 80 hours. I just don’t want to overdue myself but I wonder if I’ll be a workaholic like you someday.

You have to be careful of overdoing April that’s for sure… I have a strict rule of Saturday night through Monday OFF and only barely check email occasionally during that time, reserving it for outdoors, biking, cooking and spending time with my family. I do work hard during the week, but consider it the same as going back to school to start another career while still fully employed in the first — the marketing will help me to avoid having the 60 hours per week I sometimes find tied up in my day j-o-b!

Hi vicki, I trust your SPEED & ACCURACY, because, as the saying goes, ” if you don’t know where you are going, any
road can lead you any where. So, the WHY, will always be followed by HOW & WHEN. Most people fail in life, simply because
they fail to focus on the HOW & WHEN. Otherwise, thanks for your encouraging advice.

    • Vicki says:

Thank you very much for your insights Sam! You’re exactly right – you MUST then focus on HOW and WHEN !! Your WHY ALONE cannot create success! Just as dreaming won’t bring you what you want, you MUST TAKE ACTION!!
Thanks again Sam, see you at the top!!!

Hey there Vicki, I’m all glad to meet your blog. Well, that was sure a very encouraging piece of advice! I personally believe that we all have to get FOCUS on what we really want to do, focus in one phase of what we would like to achieve, by that we can be assured that we are heading to a direction we know we are all aware of.

  4. Great post, Vicki. I’ve thought about giving up many times, but I am very passionate about what I am doing. Sometimes, that’s been the only thing to keep me going. I really like your idea about gratitude. I think it’s wise to tell people who have helped us and let them know HOW they helped us. I’m going to do my best to have an attitude of gratitude more often. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Charles! I too have wanted many times to give up but my Why is much stronger than my Want especially in regards to giving up! It really IS the thins that keeps us going, which is why it’s so important! And yes, gratitude certainly helps!

Have an awesome week and I will see you at the top!

This is a really awesome post. I want to thank you for this golden advice.

  6. Steven says:

Very good article. People often neglect the ‘Why” and focus on the how’s and the when’s.

    • Vicki says:

Yes, you are right Steven, as those are sometimes more obvious, but people don’t realize the importance of the Why and Why we must understand it!

  7. Amy Hagerup says:

I never think of giving up. I find that internet marketing is just so much fun and I love learning how to attract people to me so that I can help them be successful financially – just like you mentioned. So important. Thanks, Vicki.

    • Vicki says:

Thanks for your insights Amy! It’s sometimes tough being an entrepreneur in any case, and the will to keep going sometimes does come from a well defined why!

  8. Frithjof says:

Thanks for this Vicky! The perfect post to kick off another week. Just over two years ago I decided to follow my passion for Social Media and start my own business. What surprises me most about self employment is the fact that some days you are flying high and others you want to hide in the basement. Thanks for putting it in perspective!
Why am I doing this? Because it’s who I am
    Happy Monday!

    • Vicki says:

Awesome Frithjof! So glad you stopped by to share… I know what you mean where some days you fly high and others you want to hide! But our Why does keep us going when it gets tough… if your Why isn’t strong enough then you might just quit!
      Happy Monday to You!
      Vicki

Vicki, This is so true. We have to make progress in our journey and not give up with the lack of wind or whatever. So sorry about your friend.
