Have you noticed that sometimes your Facebook notifications are so numerous that you miss important things, like when someone posts on your own profile?
This post will show you
How to Turn off Facebook App, Games and Status Notifications
This video shows you a couple of ways to turn off Facebook game notifications, App notifications, and even ‘Close friends’ status updates which was very obscure and hard to find.
I have also added additional screen shots below this video you can check out for more help on reducing the number of your Facebook notifications….
In addition to what I’m showing you in this video, turning off Facebook App notifications and notifications about your friends’ status updates and pictures etc, you can turn off notifications in other ways.
Turning off Facebook Notifications
First, go to your Settings area from your Home menu:
Then, after you have selected your ‘Account Settings’, find the Notifications area on the left side bar.
Once you have done that you may edit your notification settings for each of the Facebook areas – as Facebook is continually changing, I won’t go into much detail here except to let you know this is one place you can have an impact on your receiving not only notifications on your status bar but also in your emails:
Turning off Facebook Group Notifications
Now, even though you have set these notification settings you may also want to tweak settings for individual Facebook groups that you may be part of.
Since groups often get a lot of activity, you may want to limit which groups you receive notifications for. In this case, your side bar contains a list of your groups where you might also set some changes:
Then you may turn off group notifications like so:
As Facebook continues to change these specifics might also, but I thought this was important enough to document as it becomes a problem for some to find these little tidbits of settings areas (especially what I included in the video which were difficult for me to find!).
At least Facebook HAS made it easier to turn off App and Game notifications, as those can be quite annoying when you receive 20 or so per day!
Hopefully you have found this helpful, if so please consider sharing, and I thank you!

A very good tutorial for Facebook user beginners, I’m sure like I was before, they don’t want to receive tons of annoying mails regarding Facebook activities. What I mean is that, it is enough to receive a lot of notifications whenever you open you account and check for them but receiving emails because of those is very redundant. You just need to emails from something important news from it if you have any.
Absolutely April, I turn off email notifications for almost everything in FB except when someone posts on my wall – otherwise I let the status bar indicators on the top left inside of Facebook let me know about notifications (and trimming those down certainly helps!)
Thanks for sharing such useful information. I own a facebook account & love to chat with my friends but these notifications!!!! I was just irritated with many kind of useless notifications in my account and wanted to stop them & the above trick helped me a lot.
Thank you so much
Thank you Lavanya, I appreciate your stopping by and I wish you the best of success!

That would surely stop those annoying game notifications. Thanks for the info.
