Projects, People, Priorities and Posts – Oh My!

As I’ve been digging through piles of priorities, talking to tons of people, and reorganizing my activities for the coming 2012 (which by the way is lining up to be a VERY exciting year!), I’m realizing I’ve let one of my juggling balls drop, and get away from me!

What’s that you may wonder?

Well, if you’ve been paying attention, I’ve not written a post in, well, I’m not sure how long (don’t really want to think about how long, frankly, probably weeks)!

It’s not that I have nothing to say, actually quite the opposite!

Yet I have failed to follow through and so consequently I’ve got a bit of catching up to do :)

But the lesson here is not to beat myself up over that, but give myself credit for what I’ve actually accomplished.

And you should too, for all that you do NOT accomplish, think of what you HAVE accomplished as we look back on 2011.

So, in the last year I’ve certainly seen a huge turn in my business, but more specifically in the last couple of months, I’ve set some new priorities and taken on a few additional projects.

And this is all while working full time (still), and recently, during weeks of preparation for holiday madness (my family was all at my house for 2 nights and 3 days).

As I’ve even had time off from my j-o-b as a software engineer (a headache all in itself when it’s ‘on’), you’d think I would have blogged even MORE.

But, during that time, I’ve been taking some training (something which I had been wanting to focus on for a while now), created ads and sales funnels that are now set for the coming year, and working on not just one, but two webinar series, getting a few new people started in my primary company, working on two team websites to provide training and guidance to my teams, as well as re-vamping my ebook into a video series.

And during that time I have taken time to GET ORGANIZED. I’m usually an organized person, but this business (and running any kind of business yourself) takes an extra degree of practice to be effective.

Taking the EXTRA time to organize is so important to keep yourself in a productive and effective mode and to keep yourself from coming apart at the seam (one thing that caught my eye about that image here in the post)!

So I guess my own lesson is, try not to take on so much in the coming year but work through my current projects, keep that blogging ball in the air (yes it’s so important!), and keep spending the most time on my money making activities!

Don’t fall apart when things get unmanageable, manage them!

One of my coming posts will be on doing just that – organizing, prioritizing and managing your tasks and time.

Hopefully you all have had a great 2011 but are looking forward to an even better 2012!

Happy New Year and Thank You for helping me to make 2011 a memorable one!

Vicki

    Hi Vicki!
No offense meant, but it caught my attention the title of your blog. I think you are referring for People and not peole? But anyways, never mind that what is important is the content of your blog.

Vicki, I love the Wizard of Oz catch phrase! You are so right about prioritizing and putting things in their proper places. Blogging is not that hard, but we can always find reasons to skip a day or maybe even a week. As for the folks like me that continually prospect to be able generate leads online, it’s important to have fresh content. Making a blog post isn’t always the first thing bloggers want to do in the morning, but that sure is the best time for me! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Vicky. I appreciate this post. I was reminded to not beat myself up about the things I did not accomplish. Instead, I celebrated the many things I successfully completed. Have an awesome moment by moment 2012!

My favorite line in the post, ” But the lesson here is not to beat myself up over that, but give myself credit for what I’ve actually accomplished.” Boy, did I need to hear that. I am in the midst of “sharpening my blade” and that’s not easy for a Type A like myself. But it is necessary to run my business and life more efficiently. Thanks for the post!

    Hi Vicki,
I can’t agree with you more. It is all too easy for us to make excuses as to why we let our priorities slip. Be organized and more importantly follow through.

Whether it’s a retirement project or anything else, the best way to get free publicity involves these steps.
    1. Think like a reader. As a reader, why would you want to examine the story in detail? As a writer, make sure your release answers the question, “What’s in it for me?” from the reader’s perspective. Do this several times in the story.
    2. Think like an editor. Editors want articles that appeal to their readers. For example, newspaper editors could care less about event occurring outside their coverage area but do care about local activities. Even on the web, carefully target your media outlets to confirm they are a good match for what you’re saying.
    3. Take the time to research who will receive your releases. Get names and correct titles, then send the information to them.
    4. Have royalty-free high resolution JPG photos (4-inches by 6-inches at 300 dpi) available. Let your contact know the images are available but do not send them unless asked.
