Although it’s pretty obvious that there isn’t a magic bullet, that one spectacular system or program that will quickly and effortlessly build your six and seven figure income in your business, there are most definitely a few very specific keys to succeeding in network marketing.

And no, it’s not generating 20 leads per day or getting good at SEO (although these can certainly be helpful!).

But these really are ‘keys‘, because no matter the method you choose, or the road you take, they are exactly what is required to succeed in this business.

And it is an important combination, in that one or two of these three keys won’t do it.

You need all three keys to succeeding in network marketing for any of them to really work. Without one, the other two won’t produce the results we all know are possible with the character traits we also must have to find great success.

And they will, not so coincidentally, be those that ensure success in almost any skill or profession. But for the purposes of this discussion we’ll just stick to our focus:

The Three Keys to Succeeding in Network Marketing

(1) Skills and Continuous Improvement / Training

While certain marketing skills can be useful, and for some even necessary, there are still the most basic core skills that you’ll never have success without.

These include the ability to quickly connect with people on their level, to be proficient at persuasion and influence.

That’s not to say cajole and badger but also to identify those that would want a product or opportunity, and then be able to let them see that they want it and get past their objections by the questions that you ask.

Personal development cannot be understated for two primary reasons.

First is that your sponsorship will grow as a direct result. Would you hire you? Would you want you on your team? You should know the answers!

Secondly, it is required for your success for the persistence and patience you will need, and the leadership, communication, and organizational skills it will take to maintain large teams.

And so, crucial for the keys to succeeding in network marketing, is your willingness to learn from those who have success, your coachability.

This one thing is in fact, essential.

Even if you have success in other industries and have the character traits necessary, you have only to gain by being as much a follower as a leader.

As you attend live events you will see a huge respect paid to everyone at every level. This is quite often unlike what most have experienced in typical corporate situations.

And most often, each leader present has followed many.

But it’s leading by example that wins in this business.

The Most Overlooked of the Keys to Succeeding in Network Marketing

(2) Time in the business

Without a doubt, you must be prepared to dedicate a minimum of 2 and often upwards of 5 years to see the kind of success truly possible.

Become a student of the industry as dictated by number one, and without a doubt, time will ensure that you master your craft. Time is on your side in this case.

Understand that most people would not expect to become top in their field within three months of starting in any profession.

Time in the business will build your belief and confidence, and produce leadership qualities that you may not have foreseen starting out.

The Most Daily Relevant of the Keys to Succeeding in Network Marketing

(3) Taking Action (with FOCUS!)

This is probably the most powerful key because of it’s ability to produce momentum….

But taking action consistently, day after day, week after week, and month after month, year after year, requires deep seated desire for the goals you wish to achieve.

It takes a deep seated desire to take action when you are exhausted, stressed out from managing a busy schedule or having financial constraints.

And those goals must be more than money. It’s not just the money but what it is that you will do with that money!

The behavior and beliefs that drive your action must be rooted as well within a desire to help others achieve the same.

If you truly want to help others achieve a better life and make things happen, you’ll take consistent action, and naturally inspire them to action as well.

But your drive and desire aren’t quite enough, when there are so many shiny objects and distractions in the marketplace today (not to mention our personal lives).

Computers and convenience seem to be somewhat contrary to their intended purpose sometimes do they not?

If you’re waiting for the perfect plan, it IS simply to take action.

You have to get started.

It is the most immediately crucial of the keys to succeeding in network marketing.

Will you make mistakes? Of course you will!

And, as one of my mentors says, “we’re not brain surgeons here; nobody’s going to die.” (Love that one Gerry Schroeder!)

Mistakes are an integral part of the learning process and not only do they strengthen you for the long term, they are a natural part of the process of success.

    I’ve seen far too many intelligent, successful people fall flat on their faces in this industry
    because they weren’t open and coachable. Leaders cannot work with…or help…those
    who aren’t. And as you say, this is ESSENTIAL.

    One of my teachers often repeated, “To be a good leader, you MUST be a good follower.”
    It’s the key within the key.

    In this post you meantion “taking action with FOCUS”, and that was something I started to think about. I do take action, however do it with focus on the RiGHT things is not that easy all the time. I will be better on that!

      Thanks for your thoughtful ocmment! I think you’ve added a very valuable insight here, the RIGHT things! That is, what things are the most value to you? I think it was Steven Covey that pointed out how 20% of our actions are responsible for 80% of the results. Imagine if we upped that 20% to 40, 50 or even 80%!

  9. Network marketing takes time. If you have no time, you won’t make much money. You need to dedicate two or three hours a day to your business.
