Walking the Talk of Persistence
When we talk about having persistence in order to succeed, it’s often with lofty positivity and visions of our ultimate dreams coming to fruition.
But then there are those days that we really have to pull it out, as the challenges seem to go on forever, as you continually beat your head against the computer fighting through brick wall after brick wall.
And as you are on your last gasp, daring yourself just to hang it up, at least for this round, your dreams and desire refuse to let go. They just don’t know how.
How Many Levels of Persistence Are There?
For me my test of persistence lately been the innumerable technical and creative challenges I have have faced while struggling to get my course modules together for a List Building, Content Creation, Traffic Generation boot camp; Creating Content Syndication Synergy.
Starting with the decisions of what and how to put the ideas together that seemed to span the universe into a concise and meaningful package for a ‘caffeine product’, then navigating a new membership site template, fraught with odd little idiosyncrasies that seemed to defy any explanation or solution, the issues just kept coming.
With only days to complete the challenge on time, marketing to get out and a webinar to prepare, minutes turned into hours as the first webinar the platform I had decided upon exhibited symptoms that made it an unacceptable platform.
And with the content I want to deliver seeming overwhelming as I wanted to condense a kind of attraction marketing, traffic generation and list building boot camp into into a seamless, concise and effective course, issues kept continually cropping up and getting in the way.
And still, all along there was also my own little voice that wanted things just so, from logos to layout to sales pages, while the other little voice was saying things like ‘Let that go you have bigger fish to fry!’ and ‘Do you want sloppy success or mediocre perfection?!’.
Then fighting mystery after conundrum in the technical side of integrating the membership site with security plugin and Paypal buttons, the day of my first webinar was upon me.
And the first half of that day consisted of at least an hour and a half of unplanned time, going back and forth between the instructional video for the member plugin and merchant support at Paypal. Then, finally thinking my buttons were working, I got on to getting the first module ready with the webinar only hours away.
As the webinar was finally gratefully behind me, I realized those buttons had been completely inoperable the entire time, but even so, panic wasn’t obvious except in my slightly rising blood pressure.
Being a bit of a techie, I thought this should be easy enough, but Not quite! (Believe me, there’s a course module coming out of this!)
Partners in Persistence
Thank goodness for my friend and partner in this challenge, Nicole Jolie, as we’ve taken on to create our products in parallel. Each time one of us has been on the verge of giving up, the other has egged her on just enough, making it apparent how valuable a good working partner can be in tough challenges.
As my own never ending issues continued, Nicole has dealt with even bigger ones like moving and facing not having a place to move to, financial constraints, and not one but TWO computer viruses, immediately after a blog crash from hackers, and that’s just for starters.
And if that gives you a hint of just how Nicole can persevere, she’s the one you might remember from Ferny Ceballos’ post last year who biked over 150 miles in the 110 degree desert heat to get to the NESII event – I could never ask for a better persistence partner I can tell you that!
Well by this time, we’ve gone through 2 to finally a 3rd webinar platform, relieved to finally have a good reliable system for the live broadcast at least. And we’ve both had our webinars and have started our module content, making it through member site and security setup, Paypal integration and many long days and nights.
And my course module delivery is finally back on track (just barely), as the marketing is in place and I am hoping for good sleep sometime in the near future.
As it’s plainly obvious to me that ANYBODY would have easily given up LONG before now, and going on 4-5 hours of sleep daily for nearly three weeks daring ourselves NOT to give up, Nicole and I are both still hanging in there.
Some of the things we’ve had to face have been completely comical in their absolute incredulity. Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up! We’ve been so tired and exhausted as we continued pressing on, that we began to see the flaw in that approach when we missed the big red ‘Easy Button’ (literally, no kidding, even one time it was the exact big red easy button you will see on the side of the Office Depot truck rolling down the highway).
But not only have we learned a lot, we’ve learned a lot about ourselves in the process, and have a new measure of our own strength and perseverance.
So I had to laugh the other day when I saw this video, and couldn’t help but think of Nicole and myself and how we’ve encouraged one another when one of us was on the verge of giving up with what seemed truly impossible.
Always remember what the power of persistence provides – and the greater the pain, the sweeter the reward!

Hi, Vicki,
thanks for sharing the lesson that you and Nicole learned about persistence.
But, what I liked the best was this video you put to show us what do dogs have in common with success and persistence. Seems to me we could learn a lot just by observing these two English bulldogs. Are they your dogs, by the way? I am trying for a long time now to find an English or a French bulldog for myself-they are just so adorable with their cartoon look alike faces.:)
Well, the good thing is that the dog managed to get his pool into the house…although, for the price of loosing the water (which is, however, good news for the house owner)!:) Guess it means we cannot get everything we wanted even if we are persistent, but we sure will make more positive then negative outcomes from it.
Thank you Kristina! I couldn’t’ resist including the dogs, they so reminded me of what I thought had come to the point it just wasn’t going to work but kept going anyway…
And no, they aren’t my dogs, they ARE so adorable! Did you see the related video on YouTube of Gus as a puppy when he first got his pool? So funny!
But you are right, we can’t get everything we want, but we definitely can benefit from the positive outcomes provided by constant persistence!
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment!

Wishing You Fabulous Success,
True, persistence is the best “thing” that one must have….as a marketer or anything….and it comes hand in hand with pain…pain of failure, of not getting it “THERE”….
Hi Vicki, persistence is a thing very important in life. We need it to reach all our goals. A great formula is to split your big goal in small goals, then to reach each small goal with persistence, until you reach your big goal. You only need focus, persistence and write your plan on paper
great post! for me persistence is very important and what im doing is to achieve my goals i just focus my work and be open minded weather i lose or successful.thanks for sharing this tips.
Now that is just downright greedy of you,Gus! But he got what he wanted, didn’t he? That’s what his persistence rewarded him.
Love the video, Vicki!
Well he got the pool but not much water LOL! Guess that shows something about balance or planning as well
Yes I couldn’t resist utilizing the video!
Hullo Vicki, i am grateful with your “Persistance “article. Well, naturally, iam born that way.
Being in the Nutrition MLM industry, for 15yrs, & while strugling to achieve at to earn $500 a month in vain, simply gives you the idea of my stature. Hi Samuel, thank you! And for the added references, great books to read!
I wish you all the best in your persistent pursuit of success!
Persistence demands patience and you must keep the goal in front of you.
Thank you for sharing.
hi viki i am also an internet marketer and i feel just like you there is alot of things to do and i have to be Persistence and to overcome any setbacks i wish you all teh best and success
Hi Vicki. Glad to see you soon. Hope all are FIT and FINE there. Right?
Talking about me I strongly believe in power of PERSISTENCE. And there is so much PAIN in this too but the fact is that “There is no GAIN without PAIN” so we have to remain stuck to whatever it is and how much painful it is and atlast all will end HAPPLY and we get what we WANT.
Anyway thanks a lot for this important sharing.
Thank you Megan! I know how important persistence is and it’s without a doubt what leads to success each and every time. You are so right that the ‘no pain, no gain’ applies to growing a business, and this is why persistence is so key! But it is all so well worth it in the end!
I appreciate your stopping by and leaving your insightful comment!
Wishing You Brilliant Success,
It’s true that persistence is one of the characteristics to be successful however in my opinion, i guess persistence and determination should go along together. With determination, you are compelled to be persistent in your work thus leading to success. Does it make any sense?
Yes Audrey, I guess I kind of think of the two as being inseparable, I wouldn’t think a person persistent unless they were determined, and determination is a natural precursor to persistence (where the level of persistence is a measure of the level of determination!)
Perseverance is what helps the leaders pull ahead of the pack. Keep up the good work!
Thanks April! Perseverance is definitely key!
