In the daily ins and outs of successful social media marketing, there is plenty of consistency, awesome content, and a fantastic community!

But some people are STILL tripping themselves up, Spamming their ‘friends’ and pushing their product, system, or opportunity, all seemingly without knowing or caring!

Just when I think I’ve finally seen the last of them, another one pops up.

But as a good friend of mine once said, ‘Gotta love a spammer, they need our help‘!

I don’t know, sometimes it’s hard to love on someone who is annoying you to the point of distraction! Then again, I know she’s got a point.

So I am sure that these are just newbies on the scene, trying to find their way, in light of the ‘training’ they have had in the past. Training that has been hammered into them ‘Continue telling your friends, family and acquaintances about your product and opportunity, and don’t give up! The timing will be right one day!’.

But when I saw someone spam my Facebook wall for the 5th time today, which initially was under the guise of ‘Have a Beautiful Day Here’s MY LINK’ but today was simply ‘CLICK THE LINK’ (yes, they said EXACTLY that), I UNFRIENDED them, something I had only done once before!

But waht was the most annoying part was when I went to look at their profile (we had never even had personal contact, he was probably one of those who had befriended me without so much as a note), he was Proclaiming to be a Social Media Marketing EXPERT! Well that did it…. where’s that ‘Un-Friend’ button…..

That they would be promoting this behavior as ‘marketing‘, the way things are done, really got my goat.

And then there are those that think automating a few friends and messages, they’re ready for the big time!

So in hopes this might catch their attention, IF ANYONE wants to FAIL at social media marketing just do this:

  1. SPAM your friend and connections- Send a friend request and include your product, system or opportunity info in the invitation!  But if you want to be successful, do NOT do this! Instead, get to know the person first and determine whether they have ANY interesting in being a prospect for you! (The other day I received just such a spammy invitation from someone in the same affiliate program as myself, which told me that they had done so without bothering to check out my profile to find out a bit about me first, or they would have known!)
  2. DO NOT have your picture on your profile – …. well… NOT! What is even funnier is that I have received SPAM from people who have not even taken the time to put their picture up, or any meaningful description on their profile! Or I’ve seen pictures of product as the profile avatar, and a name something like ‘MakeMoMoney!’ or ‘JuggleJuiceDrink’….. Am I (or ANYONE else) supposed to take that seriously?
  3. DO NOT provide SOLUTIONS to PROBLEMS that your target market is facing. This is a sure fire way to NOT build KLT (Know-Like-and-Trust), the basis of relationships, which is the foundation of any successful business! I don’t care if your product, service or system DOES solve a problem, IF YOU DO want to succeed at this, then GIVE first without receiving! It is all about reciprocity, and providing value!

Ok, so I think you get my drift, and I can get off my soap box now :)

  1. These are some great “anti-examples,” Vicki! If I had a dollar for every time my upline tried to get me to do those things, I wouldn’t need to do this business any more ;-) These are some things that we really need to remember as network marketers. If you bug people so much they don’t want to talk to you, how can you ever get them to join?

I know, it’s funny but people are sometimes stuck in doing things a certain way when it’s not really as effective as they might think.

I’m glad you are doing things your own way instead of following advice you see isn’t working for you!

      Wishing you Awesome Success!

  2. Hey Vicki,
I’ve run into quite a few profiles with out pictures. I don’t bother to look at them or take them serious.

    Well done Vicki,

It needed to be said. It’s Ok to promote the odd affiliate link every now and again, in and a amongst all the great value you offer but to add someone as a friend with the sole intention of spamming them the first chance you get is a little crazy.

Its exactly the same as running down the street after someone you just met in the park and asking them to spend 100’s of dollars lol.

Hopefully the spammers will read this post and take note :)

      Hi Beth!

Thanks! I do think it bears repeating every now and then for those just getting into marketing online. There’s really more to it than one might think at first, and it’s always all about relationships, no matter what business you are in, MLM or not! So most people would realize that it’s not possible to create relationships by starting out with a pitch, yet some people do it anyway!

As always, I appreciate your stopping by, always a pleasure to see you!

      Thank You Chris! :)

That’s funny you come across this post after having just been spammed! (well maybe Not so funny!) Don’t people get that posting their biz op on your wall is like walking into your living room as you are sitting with your friends and spouting off about their product or service? It’s every bit as rude, so how they would ever have any success doing this is beyond me! Maybe after hundreds of failed attempts they’ll finally realize they’ve been wasting their time, but to the exasperation of many having had to delete or worse, ban the abuser!

Thanks for stopping by and pitching in!
      Wishing You Tremendous Success!
