Luck is a State of Mind

Some people say that they can’t catch a break, that they seem to be on the bad side of luck at every turn.

They say that other people get all the breaks, and are dismayed at the ‘luck’ some people seem to have. They may say “Why does he have all the luck? It’s not fair!”

But is it really just a matter of coincidence? Is it their karma? Do those with bad luck really deserve to be constantly getting ‘the short end of the stick’ as it were? Hardly.

What they don’t realize is that luck is much more tied to a state of mind than one may think.  And this applies to your having any ‘luck’ in your business of course.

Luck comes more to those with positive attitudes, and who practice persistence in the pursuit of their goals.

The lucky are also those that make adjustments in their plans rather than give up when their plans fail or are are shown not to be so successful.

The ‘lucky’ or more fortunate tend to be those who cast their nets wide as they go through life, incorporating many different kinds of ideas and befriending everyone they can, not judging or marginalizing anyone, and never burning a bridge.

Good luck is much more than just happening to be in the right place at the right time.

Luck can be Learned

This has been a topic of recent studies which have shown that people who do tend to think positively, and not allow negative thoughts and emotions rule their day, do tend to have better ‘luck’.

The ‘lucky’ are forward thinking, not dwelling on the present problems of their day, and focused on the good things they are willing to happen in their lives.

One study explored this in detail and showed that lucky peoples’ good fortune is realized via these basic principles.

  • They are skilled at creating and noticing chance opportunities. How many times have you passed up the opportunity to mention your business to someone who might have been looking for an opportunity themselves?
  • They listen to their intuition.
  • They create self-fulfilling prophesies via positive expectations. If you believe in yourself and your success, then you will have it!
  • They adopt a resilient attitude, seeing the good side of their bad luck. When things don’t go as expected, there is always something to have been gained from the experience. It is just up to you to identify it and apply it going forward.

The study revealed that when making choices, lucky people tended to follow their intuition while unlucky people often did not.  And, lucky people tended to always see the positive side of their failures or ‘bad luck’.

It also showed that lucky people would often have more variety in their routines and in their social circles than those who were unlucky.  You could think of this in terms of working your business. Expand your marketing activities and training. Widen your net by getting to people when the opportunity presents itself.

So, you may now begin to see how luck is a state of mind, one which can be learned and practiced. If you think primarily of the things you want in life, and accompany those thoughts with positive emotions, you will find your luck immediately begin to change.

Luck and the Law of Attraction

Your luck might be a more gradual change if you are deeply rooted in the negative and find bad luck following you on a consistent basis.  This is because you have been practicing the Law of Attraction with negative thoughts and emotions.

The Law of Attraction is at work at all times everywhere, whether you work with it to manifest your desires or not. If you don’t think you can have real success, then you won’t. How many leads have you converted while in a negative state of mind?

When you practice the Law of Attraction to manifest the good things you want and see around you, you will begin to have better luck, you won’t be able to avoid it. This will apply to every aspect of your life, from personal to professional.

It is your subconscious mind that you must control in order for your desire to be manifested more quickly if you have been deeply rooted in a negative state of mind.

Your subconscious mind is the size of the universe and dumb as a rock, absorbing everything it comes into vibrational contact with (negative or positive). How much news do you watch/read? How many horror films or dramas do you watch on TV? Hmmm. Are you spending your time or exposing your mind wisely?

Your  conscious mind (the smart one) is the size of a pea. The thoughts and input that are so easily under your direct control here are dwarfed by the vast amounts of input that is absorbed automatically and indiscriminately by your subconscious mind.

The thought matter  received by your subconscious mind, especially when combined with strong emotion,  goes a long way toward manifesting your reality. Thoughts truly are things and are the beginning of every manifestation.

Just know that two opposing emotions can’t occupy the mind at the same time. You can’t experience joy while holding a grudge, you cannot experience love while harboring hate, and you cannot find peace while dwelling on anger.  When you find yourself feeling a negative emotion, change your thinking immediately to something which has a more positive effect.

If you are running your own business and having trouble with success, it may be that you are simply lacking in some skills, but without a doubt, luck is one of the skills you should learn.

Luck is a state of mind, and so, not-so-coincidentally, is success!

I just want to expand a little on “They listen to their intuition”

This is very important, intuition can also be described as feelings, or emotions.

I think it is very important you always listen to this, it is your guide through life. You can seemingly predict your future this way.

If you are ever unsure of which direction to take in life when presented with difficult choices, closely monitor your feelings when thinking of each path..

Always choose the one that makes you feel good.

    • Vicki says:

      Amen Nick!

Intuition is a very powerful tool. The emotions are an indicator that works hand in hand with that as well, like a barometer to help guide you.

      Wishing you all the best!

This was a very enjoyable article. I hear so often people feeling unlucky. To bad they wouldn’t have access to something like this. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi Karen!
Yes, funny isn’t it that people often do just resign themselves to being ‘unlucky’ when it would be amazing to see the difference of some applied thinking!
      Thanks for the comment!

Hi Vicki, This article gets down to the nitty-gritty of what really goes on behind the scenes to create our circumstances. Your writing is concise and thoroughly enjoyable. This post sheds a lot of clarity on “what we think about, we bring about.” I look forward to reading more of your work. Val

    • Vicki says:

Thank you Val! I appreciate your complements and that you get it, how we have so much going on behind the scenes to create our circumstances and our luck! It sometimes takes practice if you are often stuck in the negative but once your subconscious mind is trained to think positively there is nothing stopping you!

      Have a Brilliant Day!

Thanks Kyle! Yes isn’t it awesome what the mind can do for us! I just love it getting to know people who really get it!

Create an awesome day! (I know you will!)

  8. Hey Vicki… you’re right on target… everything has to do with the law of attraction. Here’s a line I’ve adopted and used for many years now. (even on my phone message) “Remember… if you say you can or if you say you can’t… you’re right”
    I’m very “lucky”

  9. Wow Vicki! You are so right. I can sometimes fall victim to thinking other people have the breaks but then I remember the good things that have happened to me and the murmurs that go on when I’ve achieved some success. And I realize the success I’ve had was only because I believed in myself and I was determined to make it happen. So when people say to me that “You’ve been lucky” I say “Do you know all that I’ve had to go to get to this point?” Thank you for sharing!

    • Vicki says:

Thank you Emily! Yes we do have a lot of work involved to be ‘lucky’ sometimes! And being well centered, present in the moment helps us to observe the opportunities so often overlooked by some, having an attitude of gratitude will go a long way there!

      Thanks for commenting!

  10. Vicki this is a very great post. Very clear, to the point and yet full of details.
I share your views completely and we very often forget that only we are the masters of our own life, of our lack and of our prosperity. And of every experience we attract in our life. Luck also means to be able to look at the lesson that these “unlucky” esperiences are teaching us.
There is always something positive to learn in everything we come across in our life.

    To your unstoppable prosperity

    • Vicki says:

      Thank You Paola!

I know, it’s often something that people never stop to consider, how much their thought influence their lives. Everything can be put into a perspective that fosters growth!

      Wishing You Every Success!

  11. Hey Vicki… I like to say we make our own luck by how and what we think about and dream about. Focus on your dreams and you will create “good luck”. The Law of Attraction.

      Hi Freddie!

You are so right! It’s what we think about that we create, and we do create our own luck!

      Thank you for stopping by!

Wishing You Luck and Great Fortune!

  12. Great article, Vicki! I really like the idea of working to create our own luck. I also thought of the idea of the subconscious as “as vast as the universe and as dumb as a rock” because of the ways that it sabotages us. The other important thing is that, if luck is a state of mind, that means that we can change our luck if it’s not what we want.

    • Vicki says:

      Thank You Steve!

Yes, and not only is the subconscious vast, but the conscious mind is so tiny in comparison. It makes one realize how much work we have to do in training that enourmous subconscious of ours to stay on the positive as a form of habit! Only then can we truly be masters of our own luck!

      Wishing You Awesome Success!

  13. I’m glad you offered me the opportunity to read your wonderful and inspiring post. . .It is truly delightful the way you paint your pictures with words. . . .Even to the point of re-directing a good many readers, I’m sure.

I’ve had a week of getting reorganized. A virust took over my computer last Tuesday, and I’m surprised that I’ve recovered as much as I have.

      Hi Lottie!

Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed this post! :D

I’m so sorry you got a virus on your computer! That can be so devastating. Computers take up enough time with maintenance without having to deal with that! I hope you recovered what you needed to (makes you think about external hard drives or those online backup services or something!)

      Wishing You the Very Best,
