I suppose the flip side application would be for us to notice (affirm, praise, express gratitude toward) others--hopefully not to stroke their pride or flatter their ego, but to foreshadow the future praise of God and to encourage in the marathon of life. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" -- the Golden Rule also coming from the Sermon on the Mount. God help us.
