Your “Why“... Why is it so important for your success?
Whether or not you are in network marketing, the cards are stacked against your ability to succeed if you do not have a well defined “Why”.
Succeeding in any business or attaining any aspiring goal requires DESIRE, focus, planning, faith, imagination, creativity, decision making, motivation, and above all, PERSISTENCE. These facts have been written in countless books, time and again.
In the classic, “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill lays out these keys for success as proven by all the great men that he studied. Although written in 1937, it is still very relevant today, a highly recommended read for anyone.
It is PERSISTENCE, one of the primary keys for success,
that may FADE without DESIRE, a well defined “WHY”.
DESIRE is the result of something that you want which is backed by strong emotion. Without desire, a dream that you can see and feel in every fiber of your being, living consistently in your subconscious mind, you may find it too much a burden to follow through to your goal when you are met with adversity.
“The first principle of success is desire, knowing what you want.
Desire is the planting of your seed.” Robert Collier
If you have not seen “Pursuit of Happyness” starring Will Smith, I strongly suggest that you do so. You will truly understand what a strong, well defined “Why” means to success when you see what Chris Gardner endured for his.
It has to be IN you, present in your DREAMs day and night, making you do whatever it takes, even if it is a little every day to stay on the leading edge. Your “Why” is the fuel of your PERSISTENCE. With it, it is simply impossible for you to fail.
You must protect your dreams, and if you have to, keep them to yourself so that others who may try and ‘protect you from disappointment’ can’t dissuade you.
When anyone pooh-poohs your dream, just tell them
“My Why is Bigger Than Your ‘Why Not‘!”.
Check out this great clip from “Pursuit of Happyness” for a wonderful bit of inspiration.

Wow! really great article Vicki. . . will bookmark and pass along.
thank you! ellen morton
Thank you so much Ellen! That means a lot!
Thank you for making people aware of Will Smith’s movie and Jeff Olson’s book. They nurture values that enrich the world.
Thank You Louis!
I do so appreciate both references, Will Smith is a powerfully inspiring individual, and Jeff Olsons’ book has made a tremendous difference for me with the time challenges that I face!
Thanks for stopping by to comment!

Vicki,
You mentioned “persistance” which is so critical to our success. I also like to add it’s partner “consistency” as the other critical piece to success. Without them I can’t do a thing.
Thanks for the post!
Rodney,
You are so right ! I’ve mentioned this one before, particularly in the realm of social media, but in the discussion of your why, I just didn’t think of it.
Thanks!
Vicki
Great article.
I did see The Pursuit of Happyness, then bought the DVD when it came out. I particularly love the part in the movie where Will verbally destroys his son’s dream about playing basketball, then immediately catches himself and gives his son a great life lesson about not letting anyone destroy his dream.
I’m also a big fan of Think and Grow Rich!
Good stuff!
Deb Lovell
Thank you Deb! That was one of my favorite parts of the movie too, which was why I posted the video here, I couldn’t believe it when I found it on YouTube!
Thanks again!

Hey Vickie,
With out a why people go no where. And it has to be big enough. I always say people with small dreams have big excuses, but people with big dreams don’t have excuses, they find solutions to any obstacles, even brick walls.
Coach Freddie
Freddie, you are so right, your why DOES have to be big enough! And I love what you said, ‘People with Big Dreams don’t have excuses, they find solutions to any obstacles, even brick walls’!
Wishing you the Best as Always!

Your so right Vicky, your why has to drive you. It’s the fuel for your desires!
Thanks heaps for your post, will definitely pass on.
Have a great day
Thank you Sharon! Yes indeed we do need that fuel to keep going!
Wishing You Every Success!

Thanks for another great post Vicki. I agree that a strong “why” is absolutely essential for success. I think it helps to investigate your “why” to find out what’s behind it. You might find a bigger “why”. What I mean is, take a look at your “why” and ask yourself why it’s important and see what comes up.

Thanks Wayne!
I think too that as we focus on our ‘Why’ even bigger things do come up! It’s certainly rooted in our dreams that we find it!
Wishing You Brilliant Success!

Vicki.. this post was powerful.
..and you’re right – with a lack of desire, we won’t give it our all. We won’t make sacrifices, we won’t get the best results..
It’s my ‘WHY’ that keeps me going, and the pain of looking 20 years into the future and not being where I want to be..
thanks for this – definitely shared
talk soon

You’re right, without desire we won’t give it our all, we’ll have no consistency, no persistence or motivation when we need it most!
Thanks again so much for your comments and shares!

Hi Vicky,

Wow Vicki! What a great post!
The why is sooo important. We all have the potential to do and be what ever we want and the why drives us to attain that which we want. Envision what you want and your why. Then believe that it is already yours because it is.
If you’re going to dream, dream big!
Bill
Hi Bill, Thanks!
You’re right, it is soooo important, and what stands between you and achieving your goals. And as you said, belief in that it is already yours is key!
Wishing You Continued Success!

Great article Vicki! I also believe our WHY is crucial to achieving our goals. One point though is I truly think people don’t delve deep enough into their WHY. People need to discover the absolute core to why they want to achieve something, not just for more money, or free time.
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for stopping by and for the added perspective! You are right, people really don’t think far enough about what really drives them. There are many necessities in life that seem to get in the way!
Thank you again for your visit and comment, and I hope to see you here again soon!

Wishing You Fabulous Success,
