YuuGuu – Free Screen Sharing Tool

YuuGuu is a free software tool that I recently used to share my screen with someone that I needed to give a little tutorial to, and it works easily and is free with 5 or fewer participants.

The controller downloads the free software, launches it, and clicks the ‘Web Share’ button on the YuuGuu chat window, and at the top of the web share window that pops up is a URL and a PIN number that can be given to the participants.

I was on the phone when I used it but there is also web conferencing that you can enable so that up to 5 participants can hear you. The chat window is also open for everyone.

When you want to share your screen, just click the ‘Share’ button in the top left corner of the share chat window.

The participants will direct their browser to http://YuuGuu.com/share (or share-2, whichever is indicated on the chat window), and enter the PIN and a screen name  they create for that session. Once they do, your screen will appear, and a red dot follows your mouse movements on your end.

It is as I said limited to 5 participants for the free version, and also it seems like about 2 hrs. per month as well. I guess I had not read all of the description and was surprised when I had run out of my allotted time for the month.  But that said, for a free tool it is simple and great to collaborate with!

================= Update =================

Although I have not used it yet, Skype’s new version 2.8 has as screen share capability.  I already have Skype, so just upgraded it, and will post here an update when I have used the screen share option.

  1. Just a quick clarification on the limits on the free version – you are limited to 100 minutes per month using web share but if you are sharing with other Yuuguu clients (ie. viewers using the desktop Yuuguu app rather than the browser-based flash viewer) then there are no time limits.

    Thanks again for the review, Regards, Phill (Yuuguu Dev Team)

    I admire the valuable information you offer in your articles. I will bookmark your blog and have my children check up here often. I am quite sure they will learn lots of new stuff here than anybody else!

    i tried using yuuguu but it was not compatible with my computer. is there anything I can do about that?

      Hi Richard,

      It has been quite a while since I’ve used it so you may want to try something else – Crossloop is compatible with Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.x so you may want to give that a try, you still have to install the software. It seems I’ve also heard of screen sharing that you can do directly from a web based app but can’t think of one at the moment – I’ll come back and update this comment if I do!

      Have a great weekend!

    When I started reading this post, I thought “Well, Skype…” and then I read your update. Gotta love Skype; it will be as ubiquitous as Google and Facebook.
