very true..I really hate it when newfound friends add me on fb and I thought it was nice of them then I realize later they only want to post their product ads on my wall. It pisses me off and I always remove them from my news feeds or disabled posting on my wall.

Very useful post... you hit on a lot of the common misconceptions/mistakes most people make when using social media for business purposes. I think the type of business you have makes a difference as well. Some products/services lend themselves way better to social media, so it's important for businesses to think about whether their time and money is best spent on it.

I agree with you. Evaluating your target market and knowing what content will be meaningful and valuable to them is really vital and a must-do in order to achieve access. Your article is entirely informative and helpful. Great post!

Hit and Run marketing - that is funny, but true.

Building a relationship is becoming very important whether in social marketing or your own newsletter. My first training on the internet was told to to be more agressive, so I have had to pull back a little. It really is the better way to go.

"Do you barely get past an introduction with someone you have just connected with on a social network when you launch into a pitch of your product or opportunity? Do you send spam emails to recipients of groups you belong to?"

-- I am so guilty of this on a few occasions. Boy, did I get a lot of cold shoulders after that.

Thanks for the profound lessons, Vicki! Am sure to follow your words and correct my previous mistakes.
