how to succeed in network marketingIf you have been looking for a fast way to make your first million in network marketing, you can stop right here.

While I hate to disappoint, there isn’t any magic bullet.

You knew I was going to say that didn’t you? Believe me, I tried to find one. I finally gave up my quest when I found out the truth.

All of my “answers” were leading me back to the place where I needed to be, which was pretty much where I started out. With me.

But Wait!

That is not to say that I quit! Not at all. I just came to an epiphany, “Keep it simple, stupid!” I said to myself. Then everything started to fall into place, finally.

There are few basic things you can do in order to be successful in network marketing. It is entirely possible, depending completely on your will to succeed.

They are not easy but they are simple.

They are not fast but they are proven.

Your dreams are absolutely within your grasp.

All you have to do to begin are to take a few simple steps:

1) Define your Why a well defined ‘Why’ is ~very~ important in ridding yourself of excuses for what you might be a bit afraid of, or that which you think you may lack a talent for, and maintaining your persistence when the going gets tough. It is so important, yet many people will not even have them written down. With a clearly defined and understood ‘why’ you will never be able to be deterred from your passion, your goals and your dreams.

2) Focus! Stop going after every opportunity, course and system on the internet, you will sit and spin and never accomplish anything. You do need training but you also need focus and direction. Find a mentor that you can relate to, who can help you with that training, and stay focused and grounded.

3) Define your goal - You need to decide what you want to be making in terms of dollars and by when. Decide what you want to do with your time and make time! Even if it is a little each day, this will keep you on the leading edge. Progress little by little amounts to more than you will believe in just a few months.

4) Plan: Determine what you will need to do in order to achieve that goal. A few skills will be required, so determine what those are (see the list below), and realize that you will need to apply yourself before you are an expert. Don’t expect things to be fast and easy. Network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme but will provide you a passive residual income if done correctly.

5) Persistence! Learn this skill by staying Focused on your “Why” and your Goal, stick to your plan (making adjustments when you find something is not working), and you are on your way.

So in following through with your plan, there are some requirements.

In your business model you need some basic marketing and advertising skills (don’t be afraid, this is not rocket science but with practice will become natural to you), some personality training (so that you can successfully build relationships), and a bit of computer savvy (to compete you must be able to take advantage of the automation and leverage that you can achieve by using a few simple tools).

Your Skill Set Toolbox:

A) Marketing: You want an automated lead generation system that is simple, duplicatable, and offers value to your prospective business partners and clients. Lead generation is particularly important for network marketers.

STOP straining relationships with family and friends and chasing down everyone else you know to tell them about your business. This is not the way a professional network marketer should operate! Those that do this well know who is looking and who is qualified by simply talking to them. Many do not fall into this category which is why the failure rate in MLM is so high.

B) Advertising and Sales: Writing good copy, articles and blogs, using social networks, and keyword research are the basic skills in this area.

C) Personality ‘Colors’ – understanding people goes a long way to building relationships. Realize that you need to LISTEN to be good at this. For more information see “Understanding Personality Colors Can Help You to Succeed“.

D) Be responsible for your business! Know the pitfalls in many compensation plans and policies and procedures documents. READ carefully before you agree to ANYTHING! Why would you agree to a contract that you have not read but which is going to dictate control of your future passive residual income?

Also be aware that most MLM companies will have you building a business which is not even yours! You will not even own your own downline in most cases, those people you have built relationships with and have joined you in your business. The company can often sue you for offering your downline other opportunities which you may be interested in! And that downline, the best part of your list, is your most valuable asset in network marketing.

And watch for phrases in your P&P that suggest your distributorship must be renewed every year or that it may be terminated (and if so look for the specific reasons!)
